If it is the image of a splendid boat race that first appears in your mind when you think about Kerala, come to Punnamada this August. A splendid regatta awaits you, with all its charm and competitive spirit. The race is held on the second Saturday of August every year. The trophy for the winners was instituted by Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. Apart from the races of snake boats (chundan vallams) and of smaller country crafts, the event offers many fascinating sights such as ceremonial water processions, spectacular floats and decorated boats.
