From October 16 to 24, 2012, the renowned Navarathri Mandapam at Fort Palace complex in Thiruvananthapuram would come alive with the rendering of wonderful classical music. Yes, once again it is time for the prestigious Navarathri Music Festival, a nine-day music fiesta in the capital city.
The festival would be featuring the exquisite kritis (compositions) of Swathi Thirunal, music maestro and the former king of erstwhile Travancore kingdom.
Another element that would catch attention of first - time visitors is the indigenous acoustic technology used in the venue to amplify the sound. Earthen pots are kept in the ceiling by means of coir ropes with their mouths facing the ground. The pots are of varying sizes and thickness and their mouths are of different measurements. These pots kept at different angles act as sound reflectors and prevent echoes. A sheer indigenous brilliance, isn't it?
