Holy Cross Shrine Mapranam Thrissur is a very important pilgrim centre in Central Kerala. The annual festival - Exaltation of Cross at this Shrine is from September 12 to 15 and octave (8th day celebration) is on 21 September. The most auspicious day during the festival period is on 14 September.
The main functions during the festival period are 'Thirithelyikkel' (Huge candle lighting) weighing 0.25 kg. to 300 kg., obeisance to relics of Holy Cross and Holy Blood of Jesus Christ, colorful procession, fireworks, church illumination and devotional religious ceremonies. The feast is celebrated all over the world on the same day.
