Kanjiramattom Nercha


Venue: Kanjiramattom Mosque, Ernakulam district

In Kerala, every year, in the month of January, the festival of Kodikuthu takes place at the Kanjiramattom mosque located in the district of Ernakulam. This mosque is a memorial to Sheikh Fariduddin.

The main attraction of the festival is the chandanakkudam ritual. This event that takes place at night will have pilgrims carrying pots covered with sandalwood paste. They will move as a procession to the mosque. Accompanying the procession are elephants in their traditional festival attire and folk performances. The festival is also an opportunity for people to watch traditional Muslim art forms like the Duffmuttu and the Kolkali.
