Want to loose yourself amid multitudes of colours, music and dance? Come to Alappuzha in February next year to rejoice the Thaipooyam festival celebrated in the name of Lord Subrahmanya, the eldest son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. Thaipooyam festival is a one-day festival held at the Sree Subrahmanya Swamy Temple in Harippad. On the festival day, devotees carrying kavadi (richly decorated wooden arches of different shapes) on their shoulders perform a ritualistic dance called Kavadiyattom and proceed to the temple. Some devotees also pierce their cheeks with long arrows and dance in a trance.

The temple is located just a kilometre away from Harippad town in Alappuzha district.
