Cherai Pooram, the annual festival at the Cherai Gowreeshwara temple which falls sometime during January or February is a typical Kerala festival complete with elephant pageantry, traditional temple orchestra and cultural performances. Twenty-eight caparisoned elephants take part in the pooram. The nearby Cherai beach is one of the finest tourist destinations of Kerala. It is close to Kochi (Cochin), Ernakulam district.
