Description of festival (Legends, History, Customs related with the festival, Highlights):

Colourful ceremonies mark the annual festival of Thilanoor Vettakorumakan temple in Kannur. Here you can attend the ‘Kalamezhuthum Paattum’ a special ritual to propitiate Goddess Bhagavathy. ‘Kalamezhuthum Paattum’ involves the drawing of a large image of the goddess with natural colours. The kalam (drawing), drawn using natural colours, is noted for the details. Once the kalam or the drawing is completed, the ritual begins with the oracle performing the ritualistic dance around it. The dance slowly transforms into a trance as the drum beats and the background hymns reach a dramatic peak. Uploaded here is a video of an interesting ritual held as part of the festival in 2007. In this, the oracle broke around 12000 coconuts , as an offering to the presiding deity.
