Thalavoor Pooram, the annual festival of Sri Durga Devi temple at Thrikkonnamarcodu in Thalavoor, is a grand event noted for traditional rituals and colourful celebrations. With Thalavoor Pooram begins the season of temple festivals in South Kerala. The most interesting festival sight is the ‘gajamela’ a ceremonial parade of caparisoned elephants to the accompaniment of traditional drum orchestra. Other highlights of the festival include a ceremonial procession and fireworks. This year (2010), the festival is on March 1 and the gajamela is also on March 1.
