Description of festival (Legends, History, Customs related with the festival, Highlights):

Thaipooyam, celebrated at temples dedicated to Lord Subramanya, can rightly be called a festival of colours. Kavadiyattam, the dance in which the artistes carry ‘kavadis’ or pots with huge bunches of bright artificial flowers on their heads, is obviously the most attractive part of the celebrations. While an array of multi-hued ‘kavadis’ in different shapes are taken out by the dancers in rhythmic steps, the pulsating drum beats and colors whip up the spectators into a frenzy. The video is of the Thaipooyam festival celebrations in the Koorkkanchery temple near Thrissur town. The festivities on the day also include cultural performances.
