| An ode of love to Kerala, from Burgundy |
Bruno Monange comes from Burgundy, a city well-known for wine-making, in France. A doctor by profession, he finds more pleasure in the aspects of wine, ?the blushful Hippocrene, with beaded bubbles winking at the brim?. Talk to this pleasant person, he is just happy to talk on any aspect of wine, including the making, choosing, tasting and the enjoying of it.
In a friendly chat on the occasion of his recent visit to Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Monange shared with us some of his Kerala experiences. He has visited this small green state five or six times, and his eyes shine when he is reminded of them. He has visited spots like Munnar with his family. He says he was spellbound by the cultural spectacles of Kerala, including Theyyam, the colourful folk art form.
What about the people of Kerala? Dr. Monange goes eloquent. ?They are well-educated, peace-loving and spiritual,? he says. He said he would like to introduce Kerala as a land of smiling, meek and interesting people.
And cuisine? ?Well.. I like it? though it is a little bit spicy,? he chuckles. An admirer of vegetarian food, he loves the Dosas, Parottas and Chappatis here. Need to say much about the simply delicious Sambar? ?I have lost a few kilos due to the healthy food here,? he smiles.
For Dr. Monange, everything related to Kerala is pleasant. He still cherishes his houseboat journey through the placid backwaters. He simply loves the bright light that fondles the land. He is now busy as a doctor, humanitarian, wine specialist and a renovator of traditional French houses. Does it mean that he will be too busy to visit Kerala? ?No way!,? he was eager to respond.
