The 2004 survey of the Indian states
by one of India’s leading weekly ‘India Today’ has ranked Kerala second in the
category of big states. The ranking was based on eight performance parameters
viz. Agriculture, Consumer Market, Law & Order, Health, Education,
Infrastructure, Investment Scenario, and Budget & Prosperity.
Among
the parameters taken for consideration, Kerala came first in Law & Order,
Health and Education. Kerala was given an overall score of 2.34, which is only
0.12 points behind the leading State, Punjab. Interestingly, Kerala showed an
increase of 0.11 points; the State of Punjab lost 0.06 points from its last year
score.
The survey also has identified 10 most socially developed
districts in India, of which eight are from Kerala viz. Kollam, Pathanamthitta,
Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram and
Thrissur.
The 2004 survey of the Indian States by India Today has found
Punjab and Kerala to be the two best states to live in. The survey was based on
facts (study) and not perception (survey).
