Mr. Andreas Heitmann first came to Kerala looking for a cure to his backache. He got it cured through Yoga and Ayurveda. This was almost eight years back, and after his first stint with Kerala, he made subsequent visits to Kerala and got more and more interested in Ayurved as well as the culture and people of the land.
Very much appreciative of South Indian culture, Mr. Heitmann's genuine interest in Ayurveda gradually reached a serious proportion, which prompted him to make an effort to make this unique healthcare system to reach more people, especially travelers from far off places. And the outcome was Thapovan, a beautiful beachside ayurvedic resort near Kovalam.
Thapovan, according to Mr. Heitmann today strives to cater to its visitors some of the Kerala experience through its very ambiance, the local community; of course Ayurveda, art forms etc.
Mr. Andreas Heitman reckons Kerala culture as one of the prime attractions for visitors to Kerala, especially those from abroad. He personally feels Kerala to be a wonderful place to live in with a high quality of life.
Prior to starting the Ayurvedic resort, Thapovan, the days spent in making the project a reality was really demanding to Mr. Heitman. Since he hails from Germany, he found it challenging to adjust to the rules and regulations of the land. But, he eventually had his dream realized with the liberalized tourism policies of Kerala and also the authorities who turned out to be very supportive.
It is nearly a decade now for Mr. Heitmann's association with Kerala, but nevertheless still relishes each day in Kerala as a new experience. At Thapovan, first time visitors as well as repeat visitors enjoy the Kerala experience, which only a person like Mr. Andreas Heitmann, who is fond of Indian culture and its people, can provide.
