Tailor-made for an emerging service industry like tourism in India,
Mr. Subhash Goyal with his vast experience in travel and tourism has
seen the infancy and the later phases of growth that has taken place
in the Indian Tourism scenario. He is the current President of the
Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO).
Sharing his
thoughts on Kerala, Mr. Goyal attributes the recent successful trends
in Kerala Tourism to the people of the State, who he believes
whole-heartedly welcomed the initiatives of the State Government as
well as that of the private sector in transforming the tourism
industry as an instrument for employment generation and also as a
major revenue earner for the State.
"Kerala is not only the
best destination in India, but it has also proven to be one of the
hottest destinations in the world," says Mr. Goyal. A share of this
popularity goes to the kind of attention given by National
Geographic, CNN, BBC, Conde Nast Taveler and other reputed print and
electronic media groups encouraging the global tour and travel
fraternity to visit Kerala for a refreshing experience.
Among the tourism delights of Kerala, Mr. Goyal lauded the
manner in which the ancient healthcare wisdom of Ayurveda was
popularized, which has now become a significant one in enhancing the
tourism potential of Kerala. Making use of Ayurveda for the
successful promotion of tourism in Kerala has made it a role model
for other states in India, and has encouraged them to revive ancient
knowledge systems of India so as to add value to their tourism
aspirations.
Similar to Ayurveda, Mr. Goyal also identified
the houseboat industry in Kerala as a unique experience, which he
reckons as an art in boat building, again a sector with a lot of
employment potential. Mr. Goyal also praised the increasing trend
among houseboat builders in Kerala to rely on eco-friendly materials
and operation methods, which he believes would take care of the
environment in which they perform. Experience in a houseboat in
Kerala is something, which the leading resorts or star hotels in the
State cannot replicate, and is a unique phenomenon.
Summing up on the ongoing successful tourism ventures of Kerala, Mr. Goyal
said that, it was basically due to the careful selection and
aggressive publicity, plus the efforts that were taken by Kerala
Tourism to give a fresh lease of life to traditional vocations like
martial art, dance forms like Kathakali, Ayurveda and boat
building.
