Outlook

The travel special edition brought out by one of India?s widely read magazines ?Outlook? in the month of March 2007 features a two-page article on regional highlights of South India. The article has picked four attractions in Kerala from a traveller?s perspective.

Among the four highlighted attractions in Kerala, one is Kochi, the Queen of the Arabian Sea. The magazine identifies Kochi as a place with the history of a small fishing hamlet turning into a natural harbour, showing the way for foreign powers like the Dutch and the Portuguese to reach its shores. The article goes on to focus on the historical landmarks of Kochi comprising churches, cemeteries, synagogues, Chinese fishing nets etc.

Moving on to the next choice of attraction in Kerala, the magazine urges its readers to make a tryst with the wild side of Kerala. It deals first with the Silent Valley national park, which has one of the remaining rain forest patches in the country and is home to many endangered species. And the Periyar Tiger Reserve would also be inviting according to the magazine and so would be the grasslands of Eravikulam, which is home to the Nilgiri Tahr. Those with a fascination for wings may head for the Salim Ali bird sanctuary at Thattekad, suggests the magazine.

Next in line for a traveler?s delight in Kerala according to the magazine would be the healing touch of Ayurveda. While the article suggests undergoing rejuvenation packages available with hotels, for specialized treatments, it advises its readers to approach renowned Ayurveda centres like the Kottakkal Aryavaidyashala.

A delightful holiday experience and the fourth among the travel oriented attractions in Kerala as per Outlook magazine is the backwaters of Kerala. The article recommends a holiday in the backwaters as an idyllic way to explore Kerala. A cruise in big boats or rice barges, while savouring the rural life and going past green vegetation, under towering coconut trees, is not to be missed, feels the magazine.
