Backwaters of Kochi

A ride in a houseboat in the Kochi Backwaters sets you right in the midst of tiny islands, cargo ships and an impeccably rustic coastline. It is like someone muted the rumble of the entire city in an instant. You get a different view of the city, as if the thriving metropolis is moving in slow motion. Kochi's backwaters are often left out of descriptions of the place, simply because of the plethora of other activities and wonders that surround it. Everyone who falls in love with Kochi will discover a new aspect of its charm in its backwaters.

The State Government owned Kerala Tourism Development Corporation conducts boat rides around the city as well as village tours in country boats. The trips are of different duration and starts at different timings, but all trips begin at the Sea Lord Jetty in Marine Drive. A village-backwater-canal tour is conducted through the canals that link the city with the village.
