Other peculiarities of Willington Island

At the island, there is an almost defunct railway junction called the Cochin Harbour Terminal. A large aerodrome was constructed here which was in use till the commissioning of the International Airport at Nedumbassery. Now the old Cochin airport is used only by the Indian Navy.

The island is also home to the ship-building yard, a wharf, the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Customs House. Apart from this, the presence of luxury hotels and other trading and commercial establishments make the island one of the main commercial centres of Kochi.
