Thrikkakara Vamana Moorthy temple

Thrikkakara, about a half- hour ride from Kochi, is believed to have been the capital of King Mahabali’s kingdom. It is home to the only temple dedicated to the Brahmin boy Vamana, one of the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, who was sent by the jealous gods to end Mahabali’s reign in Kerala.

During Onam, which falls in the Malayalam month of Chingam (August/September), King Mahabali, it is believed, comes to visit his land and the people who loved him. Onam celebrations begin at the Thrikkakara temple and continue for 10 days.

The temple is also known for its inscriptions dated from the 10th century to the 13th century.
