Kumarakom

Paradise on Earth

Bay Island Driftwood Museum

The red-brick building, off the main road at Chankarapadi, near Kumarakom, is not easy to miss. It is a unique museum and well worth a visit. The museum has a collection of sculptures. The original design is Nature’s own. The finishing touches, however, were lent by a devoted lover of Nature’s artistry. These sculptures are of driftwood from the Bay Islands of Andaman and Nicobar and were collected, and reworked to perfection by retired teacher, Ms. Raji Punnoose.

A mere glance at the various sculptures, mostly of animals, reveals that the artist has, while creating the most appropriate shape with each piece of driftwood, made sure that she does not erase the stamp of Nature.
