Kanhangad – Mosques and Sufi culture

Kanhangad is home to many beautiful mosques. On the coastal roads, a mosque can be seen almost every five kilometres.

One thing that captures the attention of any visitor to this town is a tall minaret that was built by the merchants of the area, the majority of whom are Muslims. Sufi culture prevailed in this area.  In the southern part of Kanhagad stands the Alami Palli, one of oldest mosques in the region.  The Arangadi Juma Masjid and the Parambath Magham Shareef are other important pilgrim centres here.

The spiritual centre of Guruvanam, six kilometres from Kanhangad, attracts many people. A peculiar rock formation with a stream of water here gives the appearance of water flowing from the mouth of a cow. This is called Paapa nashini Ganga.
