The cantonment hills of Kottakkunnu, bordered by an estuary on the north, are in the heart of Malappuram district. These hills were used by the Malabar Special Police. Traces of an old fort can be seen on these hills which lie close to the District Collectorate. The area was recently revamped and entertainment facilities incorporated to add to its value as a place of tourist interest.
