Mittayitheruvu or Sweat Meat Street (S. M. Street) is an important commercial hub in the heart of the Kozhikode city. The entire stretch of the street was filled with shops that sold an assortment of sweets, including the famous Kozhikodan Halwa and banana chips.
Today, at the Mittayitheruvu, which is adjacent to many important landmarks like the Town Hall and the Commonwealth Trust’s office, one can get practically anything - whether it is just a safety pin or an expensive electronic gadget.
A walk through the narrow street is an experience. The sweet shops here, which display huge blocks of the colourful Kozhikodan halwa - a specialty of Kozhikode, and many other sinful delicacies, brim with the liveliness of shops that have a bustling trade. There are numerous bargain sellers on the footpath as well as established branded outlets to cater to the demands of the brand-conscious.
