Ranipuram

Ranipuram, about 85 km from Kasaragod town, stands at a height of 750 m above sea level, and is the region of highest altitude in the district. The region was formerly known as Madathumala and the extensive forests here merge with the Coorg mountains of Karnataka. It is a paradise for trekkers and for nature lovers who are drawn by the evergreen shola forests, the wild flowers, the moors, the sprawling meadows and so on. You also stand a chance of seeing Wild Elephants wandering in the mountains.

If you are taking a bus from Kanhangad, you will have to get down at Pananthady and then take a jeep ride to reach this region. The District Tourism Promotion Council has arranged cottages for tourists. Near the cottages, there is a stream with a wooden bridge over it.

The local people also provide accommodation to tourists at rates which are cheaper.
