Location: 72 km northeast of Pathanamthitta district; 191 km from Thiruvananthapuram and 210 km from Kochi. Sabarimala, situated amidst the wilderness of the Western Ghats, is one of the major pilgrim centres in India.
The shrine, visited by millions of devotees every year, is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa believed to have been born from the union of Lord Vishnu, the Preserver, and Lord Siva, the Destroyer. Women are not allowed in the temple. |
