The District of Wayanad will be a main component in the Malabar Tourism Circuit, said Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for
Tourism. Speaking after inaugurating a seminar on ?Development of tourism and Employment Opportunities? held recently at
Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district, the minister said that the circuit is aimed at the overall development of tourism in the
Malabar region. Wayanad registered a 200 percent increase in the number of foreign tourists. The proposed Heritage Tourism
village is to take the benefits of tourism to the villages. Assuring jobs for the local population is important and the
government plans development programmes accordingly. The sector has the potential to provide about one million job opportunities.
The Government would also launch a Kerala Tourism Financial Development Corporation, the minister said.
