Shopping Destination of Kumily

Kumily is the Eden of God's Own Country for spice lovers. Responsible for leading the spice trade across the country, people can explore and find a multitude of spices in this bustling town. The varieties and techniques that one sees here are copious. Sold in compact and transparent packs around the little town, the aroma itself is enough to enchant you. The local sellers each have interesting tales on the origin of their produce and each has their own vivid story on how their family got into the spice trade.

Go into town and you can buy some of the finest grade fruits and vegetables in Kerala. Spice based delicacies like banana chips, cashews and home-made chocolates draw in huge crowds regularly along with many other local snacks. There is also a bustling space for handlooms and jute products. Products for areas outside Kerala including Gujarat and Kashmir can be found here. Shoppers can end their trip by visiting the antique stores that contain some of the finest memorabilia in the district.

For snacks, t-shirts, books on the wildlife etc., you could visit Cafe Periyarensis, run by the Periyar Wildlife Staff Co-operative Society.
