The 'Beyond the Beach' package is crafted and executed by Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala as part of its initiatives under Responsible Tourism (RT). Bringing new dimensions to the existing tourism practices, the Responsible Tourism initiative aims at a 'meaningful and mutually beneficial tourism activity' where the visitor and the host community are assured of a close interaction. This RT initiative is intended to guide tourists through the less travelled but through the most attractive Kerala hinterlands and thus aims at distributing the benefits generated from tourism to the advantage of the community.
Kovalam - with its long, curvy, sandy beaches marked by picturesque shorelines has attracted travelers in the past decades. The place began to emerge as a tourist destination under the rule of Travancore Royal dynasty. Kovalam's journey as a popular destination had its beginning during the 1930s and soon it found a special place in the international tourism map. Since then Kovalam had been attracting many foreign and domestic tourists.
'Beyond the Beach' as the name sounds is all about a journey through the lush and vivid landscape of rural hinterlands of Kovalam. As we move around, we will be accompanied and guided by our effervescent hosts from the village, who will take us through one of the most exciting experiences touching the natural and cultural facets of rural Kovalam. |
