State Tourism Award Winners 2014-15

Spice Village (Best Four-Star Hotel)

Every year, Kerala acknowledges the best in the tourism industry with its ‘State Tourism Awards’. Here, we would like to introduce to you tour operators, hotels, resorts and service providers who have won accolades in 2015. The Spice Village in Thekkady, is the recipient of the State Tourism Award for the ‘Best Four-Star Hotel’ in Kerala.

Located near the Periyar Tiger Reserve is a dream resort- the Spice Village in Thekkady which blends in with the surrounding scenic splendour with its ethnic settings. With a string of thatched huts modelled on the local tribal style exuding a rustic charm, the resort oozes with unparalleled elegance and warmth. It fits perfectly well, like a piece of a jigsaw puzzle into the vast expanse of the wilderness.

Hemmed in by an arresting endless stretch of green, the resort is replete with comfy facilities and provides the ultimate sojourn into nature’s lap. With earthy, organically designed architecture, the living spaces are one-of-a-kind and provide all necessary amenities.

An ideal place to retire to, the resort is unique with the check-ins being offered out on the lawns instead of drab reception desks. Spice Village offers 53 green cottages, each exhibiting an unparalleled ethnic charm. The spice-scented crisp air makes for natural air conditioning.

The whole resort is a chemical free zone and the property is filled with a rich collection of flora including medicinal plant varieties. A pleasant garden with around 140 varieties of trees which bloom in abandon is maintained in the property where one gets to saunter and relax. Recycling is the mantra practised in every nook and cranny of the resort. The in-house farm at Spice Village provides organic produce and only locally available ingredients are used in the kitchen.

A slew of in-house activities which involve the introduction of the spices of Kerala, a slideshow introducing the biodiversity conservation efforts, yoga and meditation sessions, classical dance performances, among others, are also organised.

The resort which has most of its energy needs met with solar power exists in harmony with nature and is a model that can be emulated.
