The sanctuary is named after an endemic tree species called Chenkurinji ( Gluta travancorica ). Spread over 171 sq km, the sanctuary has three rivers, four tributaries and a number of cascades. Elephants, Gaur, Sambar, Wild bear, Malabar giant squirrel, Nilgiri langur and lion tailed macaque are some common mammals found here |
