Kannur Hosts Workshop on Responsible Tourism

The North Malabar River Cruise project will be implemented strictly based on the concept of Responsible Tourism, Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Kerala, has said while inaugurating a workshop on Responsible Tourism in Kannur. The government will ensure more public participation in the tourism sector by extending Responsible Tourism across the state, he added.

Mr. Surendran further said that the government will implement 20 new village tourism packages that are themed on the state’s ritual arts, traditional arts and agriculture and that it also intends to develop new tourist destinations by this year. Tourism Minister also said that the government will be able to provide job opportunities to at least 50,000 people through the many programmes of Responsible Tourism Mission. The government has allocated a total of Rs. 45 million in the budget for the Responsible Tourism Mission activities, he added.

A total of 450 participants representing local self-governing bodies, handloom and handicraft departments, home stays, farm stays, tour operators, farmers and so on participated in the one-day workshop. The workshop was conducted at the Chamber of Commerce Hall in Kannur.
