Kerala Tourism is all set to roll out a river cruise by linking the eight rivers and backwaters of Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Christened as the Malanadu Cruise, the project envisages exploring the untapped and unexplored tourism spots in North Kerala.
The project pegged at Rs. 4,000 million will let travellers explore North Malabar’s traditional art forms, culture, heritage, cuisine, and thus unravel the rustic beauty of the region.
A total of 11 theme-based cruises have been worked out along the rivers Perumba, Anjarakkandy, Chandragiri, Kuppam, Valapattanam, Tejaswani, and Mahe and the backwaters of Kavvayi and Valiyaparamba.
The longest cruise routes are from Munambukadavu to Valapattanam and from Munderikadavu to Valapattanam, both extending to over 37 km. The shortest cruise routes are from Thekkil Bridge to Thalangara and from Peringathur to Mahe, both extending to over 15 km.
Destination development, generation of employment to the local people, promotion of handicrafts and handloom also figure in the project.
The preliminary works of the project have commenced.
