Padayani

Padayani

Padayani is a famed ritual artform performed at Bhadrakali temples in Central Kerala. This ceremonial dance is performed with elaborate costumes and masks. Thappu, chenda, para and kumbham are the musical instruments used in Padayani. Mythology pictures that this ritual commemorates the dance performed by Lord Shiva and the other Gods to appease Goddess Durga.
