The Kumarakom Responsible Tourism initiative of Kerala Tourism has yet again grabbed global attention by bagging the much-coveted World Travel Mart Responsible Tourism Award at the recently concluded World Travel Mart 2017, London.
Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Kerala received the award at the three-day event. Mr. Venu V. IAS, Principal Secretary, Kerala Tourism and Mr. P. Bala Kiran IAS, Director, Kerala Tourism, were also present at the prestigious ceremony that lauded the Responsible Tourism model in Kumarakom.
Earlier, the national award for the best tourism project in the country was won by Kumarakom initiative. It also clinched the prestigious Ulysses Award instituted by United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for Innovation in Public Policy and Governance and the National Award for Best Rural Tourism Project. Further, it had also won the PATA Grand Award for Environment and five national awards in the recent past.
The model has been successful in linking the local community with the hospitality industry and government departments thereby presenting an ideal tourism model for the world.
