A Village Still Living Its Own Rhythm

Overview

The trail experience

Surrounded by the waters of Vembanad Lake, Kakkathuruthu is a small island where wetlands, paddy fields, fishing and village life continue to shape the everyday landscape. The journey begins at Changaram and moves through the waterways and villages of the region before crossing to Kakkathuruthu itself — where narrow paths, working livelihoods, local food and an unforgettable Vembanad sunset reveal an island best experienced slowly. Kakkathuruthu was featured by National Geographic in its Around the World in 24 Hours photographic tour, bringing its quiet beauty to the world's attention.

A day of wetlands, working fisheries, island paths, a generous table and a Vembanad sunset — an experience of Kakkathuruthu where everyday life is shared, not staged. Carry the Island Home with You
