The trail experience

Valiyaparamba in Kasaragod is a landscape shaped by water - its backwaters, islands, fishing communities and quiet coastal villages. This trail moves from an ingenious traditional water system to village life, local food, waterways and the coast, revealing a slower, more intimate side of North Kerala. Along the way, you encounter the knowledge, livelihoods and everyday rhythms that continue to define life around the water.

    Suranga Experience

    9:30 – 11:00 AM

    Meet at Parappa Banam and step into the awe-inspiring world of the suranga — a centuries-old tunnel well that reveals the remarkable water wisdom of Kasaragod.

  2. Stopover 2

    Valiyaparamba Village

    11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

    Meet local artisans and discover the crafts, fishing and everyday life of the backwater villages.

  3. Stopover 3

    Malabar Lunch

    1:15 – 2:00 PM

    Pause for a traditional meal and taste the flavours of North Kerala.

  4. Stopover 4

    Valiyaparamba Backwaters

    2:00 – 4:30 PM

    Take to the water and explore the islands, waterways and landscapes of Valiyaparamba.

  5. Stopover 5

    Kavvayi Backwaters

    4:30 PM-6.30 PM

    Journey through Kavvayi’s island landscapes and discover the quiet rhythm of backwater life.

  6. Stopover 6

    Coastal Life & Beach

    4:30 PM-6.30 PM

    End by the coast with a beach visit and the changing colours of evening.

Terms & disclaimer

Requests are accepted only 5 to 60 days before the arrival date. A maximum of 2 bookings is allowed per package per day. Online submission is a request, not a confirmed reservation. KRTMS will contact the traveller to verify details, availability and payment. Carry a valid photo ID. Follow guide instructions and local safety advisories. KRTMS may reschedule outdoor activities in the event of weather or community ceremonies. Alcohol is not served on community premises. Photography of people requires consent.

Requests must be submitted at least 5 days prior to arrival and can be booked up to 60 days (2 months) in advance. Choose a date between 12 Oct 2026 and 06 Dec 2026.
