Muniyara in Idukki
Muniyara is a region that fascinates anthropologists and archaeologists from around the world, who throng here to research and observe its legendary Dolmenoid cists remnants belonging to the Megalithic Age. These were burial chambers, made of four stones, placed on edges and covered by a fifth one called the cap stone. Dolmenoids contain several burial chambers, others have a quadrangle scooped out in laterite and lined on the sides with granite slabs. These are also covered with cap stones. It is part of the Marayoor area in Idukki district, famous forĀ its natural sandalwood forests and pre-historic rock paintings.
