Siruvani

For long stretches, there is not even a beaten path and you’d suspect if you’re lost and are the first one to tread on this virgin patch of woods. You’re inside Siruvani in Kalladikodan hill ranges of Palakkad.

The sprawling forest, which merges with the woods of Tamilnadu, is home to the popular tourist destination of Palakkad district – Siruvani dam site. The mineral-rich water from Siruvani reservoir nourishes the district of Coimbatore, quenching its thirst and has been irrigating its rice fields for many decades. The forest here is rich with different kinds of birds, both native and visitors. Sightings of shaheen falcons, blue capped rock thrush, crested honey buzzards, Jerdon’s nightjars, black-chinned laughing thrushes, Malabar trogans and Great hornbill attract bird lovers from far off places.

JUNGLE SAFARIS

Siruvani offers both jungle safari and trekking together.

Safari and trekking to Keralamedu

To explore the beauty of Siruvani, the best choice is to go for the safari to Keralamedu. A destination managed by Mannarkad Eco-tourism, the safari to Keralamedu unleashes yourself to the wilderness of jungle. Oblivious of your presence, butterflies continue their raid on flowers all along the path up the hill.  The trip starts from Inchikunnu check post; you have to carry your own vehicle for the safari. You are going to drive through one of the most virgin rainforests in Kerala. After driving around 10 km you will reach the Siruvani Dam. At the Dam, one is greeted by two gateways on either side of the road across the dam that are typical of the Kerala and Tamil architectural styles. Then move forward to reach Keralamedu grasslands, the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is an hour trekking and the place offers majestic views of hills and also the splendid view of Coimbatore.
