Kannambra, a small village in the district of Palakkad is popular for the festival called Kannambra Vela. The chief participants are the Kannambra Shiva Temple and the Rishinaradamangalam Vishnu Temple represented by the villages of Kannambra and Rishinaradamangalam. The Vela here is performed on the 41st day after Vishu. One week before Vela, Pavakkoothu (puppet show) is performed here. On the 41st day, elephant pageantry accompanied by Panchavadyam (traditional orchestra of Kerala) starts off both from Kannambra Shiva Temple and the Rishinaradamangalam Vishnu Temple which eventually concludes at the Kurumba Bhagavathi Temple. The festival is celebrated with public support, especially from the villagers of Kannambra and Rishinaradamangalam.
