Akhila Yechuri is a historian of modern India with a focus on French colonialism in South Asia. She earned her BA and MA in History from St. Stephen’s College, part of the University of Delhi, followed by an M.Phil. in Modern Indian History from Jawaharlal Nehru University and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. Currently a lecturer in Modern History at the University of St Andrews, she previously held positions at the University of Edinburgh and LSE IDEAS. Her research explores French India as a pivotal aspect of global history, examining themes such as international relations, imperial sovereignty, and citizenship. Her upcoming monograph (1815–1954) investigates the formation of regional and national identities and the interplay between labour and citizenship in French India.
