Prof. Seema Alavi is a historian of early modern and modern South Asia, focusing on the region’s transition from Indo-Persian traditions to British colonial rule. Her work explores military, religious, and medical cultures. Her award-winning book Muslim Cosmopolitanism in the Age of Empire was published by Harvard University Press. She has been a Fulbright Scholar and held fellowships at Harvard and Cambridge, and has authored influential books such as Sepoys and the Company and Islam and Healing. She also serves on the editorial boards of leading international journals.
