Madayikkavu is a famous kavu in the Kaulamarga System and is the last stop to eliminate exorcisms and the influence of the occult. Members of the Mooss or Pidaram community perform the rites of pooja here. The temple deity, Kali, is presented in a fiery manifestation and is meant to represent her bloody and victorious appearance after the slaying of Darika. The Kavu adjoins the Madayipara rock where once the sea was said to have withdrawn and risen up high as in a Tsunami. A thick grove of trees is maintained next to the Kavu. The Theyyams are staged around the Kottam which are located to the north of the temple.
