The story goes that two daughters of Cherukunnu Annapoorneswari, went out on a social visit. The younger sister was ostracized for accepting water from a lower caste family. With the passage of time she became Pulitharammal Bhagavathy. The elder sister settled down in Kulothu and the younger sister settled down in Koyon. This is the legend behind the Koyon temple. The Devasthanam sadly remains as proof of the caste distinctions that existed in Kerala.
