The story goes that the people of Kakkadu Machilottu did not honour the Devasthanam elder ladies with offerings of paan. The elder ladies were infuriated. On their way back, a Christian trader offered them betel leaves, areca nuts and noor. It is said that the Kalari stands where the ladies rested their umbrellas. The Kalari is located at the Vannaar bus stop on the route from the Payyanur College to Hanumarambalam.
