The story goes that the Kalari Vaathukal Thampuran sent a palmyra leaf letter inviting Paanappuzha Kalari and Valia Veettil Karanavar (family head) for battle. Seeing the intimidating Nanthaka sword brought by those who came for battle, the king decided against the combat. The Bhagavathy or goddess who had come with the invitees, however, decided to stay. Preserved in the traditional Theyyam style the premises of the temple teem with green shrubs.
