The son born to Vaarikka Devi and Kankala Devan was swept down the Perumpuzha. In the boy’s memory, a deity was installed by Nalillam Kaduvanmar at Aanacheri. The Devasthanam or abode of the god is at Chittaari Kowwal near Payyanur Perumba stop at Kannur on NH 17. The main theyyam performance at the temple is Lord Shiva. The dance includes references to sacred bulls, the offspring of cattle, land, and festival food. Each subject is illustrated in different dance segments.
