This theyyam is believed to have come to Malanadu from Thulunadu with an astrologer who was carrying tender coconut water. The theyyam finally reached Payyanur. The deity first reached the temple of Maavicheri Kushavans (potters) and later moved into the Parayakunnu joint family manor and was installed in the present Devasthanam. The gods of the temple manifest distinctive features of Thulunadu.
