A guru came from Mangalapuram Kareeri to impart education to the Vannattil Pothuvals. The Devasthanam that exists today is the piece of land donated to him as payment. The legend goes that the guru attained death and took samadhi here and was reborn as a Theyyam. The Madom belongs to the Yogi community of Veera Shaiva sect.
