When the head of the Kattoor manor family reached the location of the present temple, his umbrella felt heavy due to the presence of the Goddess. The story goes that the present temple stands on the spot where the Karanavar rested his umbrella. As ordained by the original founders, this temple was built without a roof. The temple is surrounded by lush greenery and is in the midst of verdant beauty. The festivals here are jointly conducted by the Kattoor manor members and the local people.
