This kavu is known after the great Rayaran who struggled against the caste distinctions prevalent at the time. Rayaran was born the son of Kaaliyarathu Manikkunnathu manor Chakki, a Thiyya woman (a low caste woman) and Thekku Vaazhum (a local Lord) Swamiyaar, who was a sage. This kavu's Theyyam performances showcase both the hero worship and social progressive commitment of its residence and history.
