Velutha Kunnu was the place given by the Kunnirikka manor to build a temple. The manor was situated across the Anjarakkandi River in Kannur. The initial site was two lots above the present site. Story has it that temple pillars were installed on one location but that at night the pillars were moved by a divine hand and replaced on the present site by the Goddess who liked the new place better. The present site also had an ancient serpent temple on its premises. This is a subsidiary temple of the Valapattanam Machilottu Kavu.
