Mariamma is a concept which speaks of divinity coming across the seas to prevent the spread of small pox. The Kavu to Mariyamma is near the sea shore at Dharmadam Thura. It is also called Kottam. The sound of the gentle waves resonates in this serene place which is bestowed with natural splendour. This Theyyam temple is also called a Kovil by the locals which is an uncommon term in these parts, and is indicative of the sway of the Tamil culture in this location.
